An expertly realised contemporary workplace

The George Building located on the Notting Dale W11 campus, combines the character of the area’s industrial past with impressive high ceilings, an open atrium with glass roof, natural ventilation and abundant daylight.

The George Building, available from September 2018, is the latest development on the Notting Dale campus – a new creative and commercial hub in West London. Designed by architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris with an industrial character inspired by the area’s rich history, the building’s five light filled floors offer 56,000 sq ft of flexible workspace suitable for all business sectors.

The Design

The George Building is the next phase of a masterplan that builds on Notting Dale’s ambition to become W11’s creative and commercial hub. By building upon the rich history of the area, along the edge of the West cross route between Holland Park and the Westway, AHMM has designed within a structural and aesthetic language inspired by lean warehouse workspaces, initially established by their work on the yellow building for Monsoon.

The George Building is conceived as two wings addressing two very different streetscapes. These wings mediate between the landmark monsoon headquarters to Nicholas Road and the finer grain of residential terraces to the east by means of a series of stepped terraces and bays.

Externally, the simple brickwork frame and ribbon windows evoke a time when Notting Dale was home to brick makers supplying the raw materials for an expanding city. Internally, the generous ceiling heights and refined palette of exposed concrete, brickwork and metalwork offer joyful, flexible and open workspaces for a diverse population of occupiers.
